DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - Timmy Wideman birdied the last two holes including a 25 footer on the last to win by one over a trio of players tied for 2nd at 136. His 36 hole total of 135 (68-67) earned him his 5th win on the MLGT.
Wideman works on the maintenance crew at Deer Creek Golf Club while he pursues his dream of playing on the PGA Tour. He used his local knoweldge to help him earn the $2,200 first place check.
Carson Klawonn, Alexandre Vandermoten and Gavin Hall tied for 2nd at 136. All of them had a chance on the final hole to force a playoff but all just missed. Hall missed his 20 footer for birdie at the last, Vandermoten's chip for birdie to force a playoff came up just a few rolls short and Klawonn needed just a par to force extras but a poor drive led to a chip out and his 7 footer for par just slid by the right edge.
In a second day shootout Tuesday among players who shot 71 or higher Monday, Aaron Wilson and Michael Sweeney each won $100 with a final round score of 70.
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - Olin Browne Jr, Carson Klawonn and Alexandre Vandermoten share the opening round lead at Deer Creek GC after matching 5-under par 67's.
Six players are just one back entering the final round including Deer Creek's employee Timmy Wideman. 24 players are within three shots of the lead with 18 holes to go.
