WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Ben Silverman of Palm Beach Gardens made a $6,000 putt for birdie on the final hole Thursday to win a 36-hole "Major" tournament conducted by the Golfslinger.com Tour at Bear Lakes Country Club.
Playing in the final group after sharing the first round lead at 68 with five other players Wednesday, Silverman and Sunny Kim were tied at nine under par through 35 holes on the Lakes course. At the par-4 18th, Silverman made a six footer for the win moments after Kim had missed from 12 feet.
This being the 3rd of four GOLFslinger.com Tour Majors, the winner was guaranteed $10,000, while the runner-up received $4,000 from the $33,265 purse. Kim, also of Palm Beach Gardens, finished second among 63 starters. The final GOLFslinger Tour Major is the Tour Championship in December.
In regulation, Silverman shot 68-66-134 with six birdies and two bogeys Wednesday, seven birdies and a bogey Thursday. Kim had 68-67-135 on four birdies the first round, with seven birdies and two bogeys in the finale.
It was Silverman's fifth Golfslinger win. Kim has 24 including four in a row earlier this month and the previous GOLFslinger Tour Major back in June at PGA National's Champion Course.
The Golfslinger schedule next week: Monday, Jacaranda GC-East, Plantation; Wednesday, Quail Ridge CC-North, Boynton Beach; and Thursday, Ironhorse CC, West Palm Beach.
The GOLFslinger Tour returns to Bear Lakes twice in October, on Tuesday October 9th the tour will play a one day event on the Lakes course and on Tuesday October 16th there will be a one day event on the Links course.
There was $280 in the Day 2 Skins Pot with 8 skins out worth $35 each.
