BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - Mark Goetz from Greensburg, PA outlasts his former college roommate Matt Sharpstene in extra holes to earn his fourth win on the MLGT. The two men tied at 6-under par in regulation on the East course at Indian Spring CC. They halved the first playoff hole with par 4's and headed to the par-3 2nd. Sharpstene missed the green right after Goetz hit it to 15 feet. Matt had a difficult short sided flop shot and caught too much ball and faced a 50 foot par putt. He nearly made the long par attempt but it slid by the low edge leaving Goetz 2 putts for the win.
Goetz earned $1,450 from the $11,230 purse plus $233 from the optional bonus pool for a total of $1,683. Sharpstene earned $950 for the 2nd place finish. Mark and Matt played one year of college golf together at West Virginia University and roomed together before Sharpstene transferred to UNC Charlotte.
In the skins game all holes were tied so per MLGT policy the hole(s) with the fewest number of ties split the skins pot. The par-3 13th had the fewest number of ties with only two birdies so those two players split the $580 skins pot. Click on any of the $ symbols under the skins/total tab to view the skins results.
This event was a tune up for players competing on Monday Jan 26 in the Korn Ferry Tour Monday Qualifier for the Argentina Open. Good luck to all MLGT players competing in the Monday Qualifier on Jan 26!
